Lumineers in Rochelle Park, NJ

What Are Lumineers?

Lumineers are ultra-thin covers made of porcelain that are used to cosmetically enhance the appearance of a patient’s smile. Just like veneers, a shell of porcelain is bonded to the enamel of the tooth.

However, Lumineers are so thin that they don’t require the same level of preparation. Veneers require the removal of .5 mm of tooth enamel, permanently altering the natural teeth. Since Lumineers won’t stick out when bonded directly to the teeth, we don’t need to file down your enamel.

As the shells are thinner, they are also slightly more transparent, so they may not be the best option to cover severe discoloration but they can cover up minor cosmetic issues just like regular veneers but they are less invasive, can be removed, and the treatment can be done in fewer appointments. How It Works: The Lumineer Treatment Process

Consultation

The first step towards your new smile is a one on one consultation with your doctor. They’ll examine your teeth and gums, discuss your orthodontic goals, and help decide if Invisalign is right for you. We’ll use dental putty or digital scans to create impressions of your mouth, and show you a digital mockup to give you a sneak peek of what your new smile will look like.

Treatment Plan

After discussing what your cosmetic goals are and assessing the severity of the cosmetic problems with your smile, our dentists will work directly with you to develop a treatment plan that works for you. We will help you decide how many Lumineers you want to place over your teeth and what shade you should select based on various factors.

Impressions

Since we don’t need to perform any drilling, no anesthetic is necessary. We will take physical impressions of your teeth and send them to a dental lab that will fabricate your custom-made Lumineers with your specific goals in mind.

How Do I Care for My Lumineers?

To care for your Lumineers, you need to practice good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice a day and regularly flossing once a day. Regular cleanings and checkups will remove plaque buildup and ensure your Lumineers are in good condition.

Don’t use your teeth to open packages or chew on hard or sticky foods. If you grind your teeth or play sports, you must wear a mouthguard to prevent damage to your Lumineers.

Are Lumineers Permanent?

Lumineers will last for a very long time, as they are made from durable and strong materials. However, since we don’t file down your teeth as we do with the veneers procedure, Lumineers aren’t a permanent commitment.

Once you decide to get veneers, you need to wear them for life, but Lumineers are reversible and your natural teeth will remain unchanged. We recommend Lumineers if you aren’t ready to make a lifetime commitment.

How Long Do Lumineers Last?

Lumineers can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years. However, we need more information to give you an accurate estimate, because it depends on your oral hygiene, lifestyle, and the location of your Lumineers. To extend the lifespan of your Lumineers, you should limit exposure to wear and tear and food that causes stains.
