The first step towards your new smile is a one on one consultation with your doctor. They’ll examine your teeth and gums, discuss your orthodontic goals, and help decide if Invisalign is right for you. We’ll use dental putty or digital scans to create impressions of your mouth, and show you a digital mockup to give you a sneak peek of what your new smile will look like.
After discussing what your cosmetic goals are and assessing the severity of the cosmetic problems with your smile, our dentists will work directly with you to develop a treatment plan that works for you. We will help you decide how many Lumineers you want to place over your teeth and what shade you should select based on various factors.
Since we don’t need to perform any drilling, no anesthetic is necessary. We will take physical impressions of your teeth and send them to a dental lab that will fabricate your custom-made Lumineers with your specific goals in mind.
After a few weeks, your Lumineers will be ready at our office and you will return so we can bond them to your teeth.
To care for your Lumineers, you need to practice good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice a day and regularly flossing once a day. Regular cleanings and checkups will remove plaque buildup and ensure your Lumineers are in good condition.
Don’t use your teeth to open packages or chew on hard or sticky foods. If you grind your teeth or play sports, you must wear a mouthguard to prevent damage to your Lumineers.
Lumineers will last for a very long time, as they are made from durable and strong materials. However, since we don’t file down your teeth as we do with the veneers procedure, Lumineers aren’t a permanent commitment.
Once you decide to get veneers, you need to wear them for life, but Lumineers are reversible and your natural teeth will remain unchanged. We recommend Lumineers if you aren’t ready to make a lifetime commitment.
Lumineers can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years. However, we need more information to give you an accurate estimate, because it depends on your oral hygiene, lifestyle, and the location of your Lumineers. To extend the lifespan of your Lumineers, you should limit exposure to wear and tear and food that causes stains.
